Byron Bay & surrounds

Captain Cook sailed past in May 1770 and named the area after Admiral Byron, Master of the appropriately named HMAS Rainbow. The area was home to farmers for a while before it became an area for mining. For a long time Byron Bay was a working man's town, but as factories closed, it soon became a destination for relaxation and escape.
